A Variety Of Ways To Collect
By: Victor Epand

Individuals have always been extremely fascinated in any items that may propose an increase in value and many collectors have found that collecting coins has become an intense hobby. There is no set order of how a collector should collect coins for their collection although the availability of these beautiful coins is unlimited.

Collecting coins have been gaining a tremendous amount of ground for centuries while coins are made of the most precious metals in the world, which include gold, silver, and platinum. There are always fluctuations in any investment, but over the years coin collecting has shown increasing value and continue to be highly collectible.

Collectors decide to exactly what type of coin collection they want to create when they first start collecting and each collection is totally different with its own uniqueness. When the collector first decides to start collecting they must decide what type of collection they want to start they collection with. There are several types of collections and set in which to begin with, which include series, type, date, theme, or ancient themes, but it is all up to the individual collector.

To complete a series collection the collector would need to acquire a coin each year and from the each individual mint branch that has produced the coin. For instance, if the collector were attempting to create a collection of nickels then the need to collect a nickel from the first year they first started being minted would be desired. Each year a nickel in the United States may be minted at one of the four facilities within the United States, which are Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco, and West Point, so the avid collector would seek out these coins for their valued collection.

A collection based upon dates includes a huge variety of coins that are made within one particular year, which could be the year the collector was born, a wedding anniversary, or perhaps the birth of a child. This particular type of collection could contain a variety of coins, which would leave you constantly adding to your collection with a variety of designs featured upon each coin.

Coins collected by type has different varieties that may include coins within a chosen denomination that contains a coin of each major design. Some individuals collect coins showing presidents or other prominent figures that may interest them. There are collections that collectors have created by collecting antique coins that were individually struck instead of being produced by a machine. These collections are quite valuable and unlike the modern coins of today, these antique or ancient coins are not necessarily round and the design on such coins are highly raised.

Another type of collection that a collector may begin collecting is by category, which may include program coins or annual coin sets. An example of program coins is currently being produced by the United States that includes the state quarters, which is a series of five quarter-dollars with new reverses that began being issued in January of 1999 until the year 2008.

With annual coin sets the United States Mint releases sets of uncirculated and proof coins that have been produced each year. These type of sets can be directly purchased from the mint for each current year set, however, previous years will need to be purchased through other collectors or coin dealers. Proof coins display a brilliant type of mirror image that is frosted and the foregrounds are sculpted. No matter how you decide to compose your collection you will be extremely excited with each coin you add to your own specialize collection.
