Christmas decorations are an important element of Christmas tradition. With the millions of Christmas decorations there are on the market today, the best way to find the prefect decorations is to decide how they would fit into your family’s Christmas traditions. When our family purchases, or makes Christmas decorations, each piece has a specific meaning to the family, either to an individual of the family, or the family as a group. For example, each family member has a specific Christmas tree ornament that is their “special ornament” and they have had it since they were small children. The ornament represents their own personality in some way. Such as if one child really loves carousels, their Christmas tree ornament may be a carousel horse. Maybe their special Christmas tree ornament would be something they made in grade school. Each year the family gets together to decorate the tree, and inevitably the many ornaments that have been in the family for decades, bring up memories of Christmases past. Our family also collects village houses, such as those sold by Department 56. Putting together the Christmas village is another family Christmas event. Christmas villages are a fantastic way to decorate your home for Christmas, but collecting the village pieces can be somewhat addictive. Another way to have your Christmas decorations reflect your family traditions is to include ornaments that represent your family history, such as an ornament with a British Flag, if your family’s roots reside in that country, or maybe hunting and fishing themed decorations to represent grandpa’s favorite pastime, etc. You will certainly not want to forget to have one of those baby’s first Christmas ornaments for each child in the family. Christmas decorations that represent your family’s traditions mean so much more, they will especially mean a lot during those Christmases that are still years into the future.
