Intake of anabolic steroids make the liver stressed and overworked. In such a scenario, the liver starts releasing two compounds known as SGOT and SGPT. When the damages stop on the liver, it stops releasing the two chemicals. Doctors in order to analyze the extent of damage on liver always prescribes to go for SGOT and SGPT blood tests, which help them understand the extent of damage on the liver. The releasing of the two compounds by the liver comes to a stop when the damage on the liver ceases. The liver is a very amazing organ, which has the required flexibility to repair its damaged cells and recreate new cells. However, the ability to do so can also depend on a variety of other factors, including present health condition of the individual, the rest time, especially in the period when the liver is damaged and the extent of liver already damaged. Once the steroids get cracking on liver cells and damaging oral agents, the cells start breaking and may often bleed. This affects the functions of the kidney and the excretory functioning of the body may start giving problems. Steroids taken in injection forms are considered to be more harmful than their tablet counterparts for the simple reason that even though the compounds given through injections are less toxic, but the side effects from impure compounds, risk of infection from the needle of injection and infection in the blood are very risky issues which have to be handled carefully. In addition to liver damage by toxic steroids taken orally, the risk of getting bacteria infections is there in steroids taken by injections. As the damage to the liver progresses, tiny growth in the liver known as nodules appears in the liver. When an individual stops taking steroids, the nodules often disappear automatically or remain stagnant in the body without causing any damage. However in most cases, the nodules are harmful and sometimes can be fatal, if the steroids are taken continually for a long time without any break in intake. Complicated liver disease often turns fatal quite similar to alcohol users who have similar nodule growth in their body. Using alcohol with steroids can especially be harmful as it combines and enhances the negative effects of both the compounds. One thing should be remembered that liver is a very important organ for the body and use of anabolic steroids should be well analyzed before taking them for long, and time to time liver tests and medical advice should be made mandatory.
