Well, what can Internet users do to defend themselves against spyware and malware? The good news is that there are reliable programs. But on the other hand, sometimes the fix is too painful.

For example, last week I downloaded a free program that was supposed to help protect my computer. Of course, the software found tons of unsolicited files that needed to be cleaned off my hard drive, immediately, if not sooner. Unfortunately, the only way the "free" program will work is if I invest $50 in the full version of the software. What a rip off!

Unfortunately, when I close the program, an icon on my quick launch keeps flashing messages like "someone may be spying on you" or "you are in danger of identity theft". Not willing to pay the fee for the full version and becoming increasingly annoyed by the flashing warnings, I decide I need to stop what I am doing and delete the program.

Ha! What a surprise! I couldn�t uninstall it because my access was denied! This drove me mad � was this my computer or was this the program�s computer? Who had the right to decide what to install and uninstall � me or the program? Eventually I found the solution � restoring the system to a point prior to the moment when I installed this stupid program.

After this nasty experience, I was determined to find a reliable spyware and adware detection and removal program. I tried many programs and I liked Ad-aware best. I can�t afford to spend much money and because of this it is not a problem that the free version they offer is from last year. In addition to the free version, Ad-aware offers Pro and Plus versions. Their prices are quite reasonable and I believe they have additional features and scan more types of files.

In fact, only restoring the computer to a time prior to the download fixed the problem. Essentially, the program is the exact type of problem people need to watch out for, when downloading software, especially if it is free. Sometimes, it is worth it to visit a trusted site and pay for the ability to remove computer program and spyware.

Finally, if you are a heavy Internet user, you can�t go without a reliable good spyware and adware detection and removal program. No matter how careful you are, if you don�t have the adequate protection, sooner or later you will get infected, if you don�t have a program to watch out for pests.
