How To Get Away From The Clutches Of A Social Phobia
By: Alan B. Densky, CH

One of the most common anxiety disorders is social phobia, a condition in which an individual is afraid of being in a social setting. A person with social phobia experiences incapacitating fear that impacts important aspects of their life.

People with social phobia are very self-conscious and worried about what others may say or think about them. They are typically afraid of speaking up, out of fear that they might be judged or berated. Those with social anxiety tend to look down on themselves or have negative feelings about themselves. They are often worried about being noticed by others and find social situations to be very terrifying.

Some people with social phobia may seem "shy," but in the case of a phobia, this is taken to extremes. For instance, if you suffer from social phobia, you might be reluctant to make an important phone call because you are anxious about talking on the telephone. You finally make the call, but you are so anxious that you "lock up" or forget why you called. Although it can happen to everyone once in awhile, for someone with social phobia it may occur every time, to the point where they find it near impossible to make any phone calls.

Perhaps it is the night before a big presentation at work and you find yourself in a panic. You dread the thought of being in front of your boss and all your co-workers watching as you talk about a new idea or project. You can't help but feel very self-conscious and embarrassed. Even after the meeting, you can't stop overanalyzing everything you did and said. You fear that you embarrassed yourself in front of your colleagues by stuttering or saying something wrong.

Or maybe you want to go to parties and make new friends, but you avoid social gatherings because you are anxious about introducing yourself to new people. You find the crowds daunting and the thought of meeting someone new frightens you. You worry about what you'll say, or that you'll get rejected. You might stay at home a lot because you are too scared about going out. These are only a few examples of the way social phobias can affect us.

Social phobias are overblown fears that can prevent you from reaching your career goals or fully enjoying life. But even people who realize their fears are irrational may not know how to eliminate their fears. People with social anxiety disorder often want to socialize and meet new people, but are just too afraid to do so. In spite of their conscious desires and efforts, they cannot shake their fears because all phobias are rooted at the unconscious mind. Ericksonian hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques are the most effective phobia treatments because they work at this unconscious level.

It is often difficult for those afflicted with social anxiety to get help because they can be too afraid to see a therapist or open up about their anxieties. This is among the reasons why hypnosis programs are appropriate for them. The programs foster a tranquil and confidence-boosting mind frame in a private setting, without being intimidating or overwhelming.

The first stage in a phobia program is stress relief. Hypnotic therapy is a powerful tool for relieving your stress and anxiety. When you are stress free, hypnotherapy techniques will promote positive ideas in your unconscious mind and end your fears. NLP techniques are used to relieve your fears by directly targeting the thought process that causes a phobia.

In traditional hypnotherapy, specifically worded post-hypnotic suggestions are utilized to address every different phobia. The problem is, people often ignore being simply told what to do or think, so traditional hypnotherapy does not work as well as it could. A phobia calls for the use of Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and NLP.

Ericksonian hypnosis techniques work better than traditional hypnotherapy because they utilize suggestions that are not apparent to your conscious mind, instead of direct suggestions. These suggestions are hidden in discussion, in different stories and metaphors, to persuade your unconscious mind to follow a different line of reasoning. For this reason, Ericksonian hypnosis is far more advanced than conventional hypnotic therapy and far harder for the unconscious mind to reject.

A program that uses Ericksonian hypnotic therapy and NLP techniques can treat social phobia and any other phobia, in any person. This is because multiple techniques are combined to maximize their success rate. People are often amazed at the apparently miraculous changes they can see using hypnotherapy. Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP are excellent tools to help boost your confidence and beat social anxiety so you may live your life to the fullest.
