Is Hip Hop in a Serious Recession?
By: dondada

Is this what the music world has come to today? When all an artist needs is a bangin’ club beat and say anything over it and it becomes a hit. This is where the music game turns to garbage, when quality is compromised for quantity. A lot of songs on the radio today should have never been hits, but this is what happens when we are not exposed to a variety of artists and songs. Part of this has to do with the radio stations. They control what we hear by filtering what’s being played, thus keeping out good artists and music simply because their sound doesn’t fit what’s “in”. It is understandable that radio stations are trying to target the kids, and the kids are partly dictating the hits as well. But it’s hard to blame the kids for the direction that music has gone, since it’s all they know. They’ve never been exposed to quality hip hop, so they don’t know better. Today’s music has no substance, but if you’re repeatedly exposed to it, whether you like it or not, you get used to it. So for the younger generation, if nothing else exists to them and they’ve never been exposed to good hip hop, then it’s hard for them to acquire a taste for something they’ve never had. This is why every new artist already out sounds like everyone else. The way to change the game and bring back the quality in hip hop is for artists to find their own niche. Stay away from making sounds that you constantly hear on the radio and experiment with your own sound. Take hip hop to the next level.
