The number of times a keyword appears on the web page is the keyword density. Don’t overuse keywords though, but just enough to appear in the important places. In this article you will learn how to optimize your pages for keywords.
If you simply try to set up the page with your keywords as every other word, your site will more than likely be flagged as spam and that is not good.
A percentage is usually how keyword density is expressed as part of the total word count.
If your keywords appear five times in a hundred word count page then your keyword density is 5%. That is 5 divided by 100 to get 5%.
With the accepted standard between 3 and 5% that is the range your web pages should fall into so they are not flagged for spamming.
That is not just one page, but every page of your site that should not exceed that 5% rule for keyword density.
There are some simple steps to checking the density of the page. Just copy and paste the text from any page into your word processing software program like Word or Word Perfect.
Then go to the edit menu to select all. After that in the tools menu you will find a word count option. Click on that and write down the total number of words in the document.
After finishing that, select the find function on the menu labeled edit. Select the option to replace and enter the keyword you want to find plus the replace word should be the same keyword. That way you will not replace the text.
After you execute the replace function it will give you a count of the total words replaced on that page and that gives you the total number of times the keyword was used on that page.
Now that you have the total word count and the number of keywords you can easily find the keyword density.
