The Sony PSP is not just a cool gaming platform but a handy portable media player as well. I love that I am able to watch movies like “The Da Vinci Code” and “Open Season” while taking a long and boring bus ride or waiting at the doctor’s office. The only drawback is the PSP’s reliance on UMD videos that you cannot even play on your DVD. Yes, you could buy an accessory that will let you output the video to your TV, but there is an alternative and less expensive option. You can use a video converter on the movies you already have to change them into a format that can be viewed on your PSP.

The Sony PSP can play computer video files that are encoded in the MP4 format. This is actually the same format used by videos available for download from the iTunes store. However, you might not be able to get videos downloaded from iTunes to run on your PSP even if both devices can play MP4 files. This may not be a media format issue, but may possibly be caused by DRM or Digital Rights Management over the iTunes files.
