Wear Sustainable T-shirts and Help Save the Planet

"Sustainable T-shirts are only one of the several products manufactured by a growing number of companies worldwide concerned about leaving a negative environmental footprint during production. These sustainable T-shirts are usually made from organic materials, resulting from campaigns of more and more individuals who are now becoming educated about the harmful effects of using unnatural and nonbiodegradable materials, starting from the growing of its raw materials to its production. Most sustainable T-shirts are designed and manufactured with the use of water-based inks and eco-friendly screen printing, having designs and logos that post campaigns against global warming.

The term sustainability means that the manufacturing processes of a product does not or reduces the use of unnatural or nonbiodegradable materials in order to produce quality goods that meet the required standards of what is called sustainable merchandise. One such example is the use of organic materials like bamboo, hemp, and organic cotton in the production of textiles to be used for the different kinds of apparels such as sustainable T-shirts. Unlike the conventional cotton that uses hazardous chemicals for pest control and wastes too much water when growing the trees, organic cotton is grown by using methods such as companion planting and intercropping where crops are grown together and each variety serves as a benefit to the other. This method actually improves the quality of the soil, making it a good way of preparing the land for the next planting season. On the other hand, exclusively imported hemp and bamboo are also becoming more popular since growing these plants do not require what conventional crops need in order to thrive—in other words, these plants grow 100 percent natural since they are not easily destroyed by plant pests. These materials are making waves in the pro-environment community as a source of excellent fibers used for textile production.

Light-colored garments such as swimsuits, infant clothing and underwear, and sustainable T-shirts are created through green printing, an eco-friendly screen printing method that uses water-based inks instead of the more popular discharge printing method. Water-based screen printing does not use phthalates or polyvinyl chloride resins and are also lead free, non-toxic, and does not contain heavy metals. When using water-based inks on dark-colored garments however, discharge printing is required; therefore, it is more sensible to use phthalate-free plastisols since these chemicals, although arguably known as a lesser “green” option, do not have to go through the process of curing as in a water-based screen printing method, where these chemicals are harmfully released into the air making it environmentally unsafe.

Sustainable T-shirts are manufactured and designed using environmental screen printing and organic materials in so many attractive designs and prints with logos that campaign and support the pro-environment community. Most importantly, these environmental T-shirts are outstanding vehicles for educating, informing, and making people more conscious about the effects of using nonbiodegradable products that continually harm our planet.
