What Are Your Flyers Saying?
By: Colleen Davis

The need to design a wonderful looking flyer is obvious. When you hand someone a flyer, they have to be intrigued right from the beginning otherwise your material will be tossed straight into the trash bin.

This kind of logic is true of most advertising media. If you don’t hook them right away with the right kind of image they aren’t going to take the time to look over what you made. However, what a lot of companies fail to realize is that once you do have their attention you need to use it well.

What exactly does your flyer say? Are you giving them a good reason to come in and hand you business? The initial design is only going to get them to actually read the flyer, but once they do, the words need to encourage them to shop at your store.

Sometimes this can be a lot harder to pull off than getting them to read the flyer. So what can you do to finish reeling them in?

The first and most obvious is the reason why they should give you a call. Part of this is going to depend on what kind of market your in. Doing the proper market research is simply a must before you start your flyer printing. If you don’t know exactly what type of person to focus on than how are you supposed to tell them what they want to hear?

Figure out who you’re targeting and what the best way to do it is. Drawing connections between their lives and your business is always going to be a great way to grab them. People like to deal with companies that understand what the customer’s life is like.

There’s a reason why mini-van commercials show the hectic mom or dad driving around all the kids, and how the mini-van can help ease the burden. The company is telling these parents, “We understand what you’re going through and we know how to help you out.” Your flyer needs to send people the same message.

Once you have the audience and the message picked out you need to give them the proper kind of incentive. Flyers are a great way to advertise sales or other special promotions. Not only are you telling them that you know what you can do to help make their life easier, but here’s a chance for them to save money as well.

Finally, make sure your closing statement will encourage them to come in. You’ve given them the deal; now tell them why they should act on it right away. Limited time offers are the most obvious kind of closing statements, but they aren’t the only ones. Give them a good reason why waiting to buy would be to their disadvantage.

The proper execution of your flyer printing job can ensure that people will not only take the time to read your flyer, but will also take the time to come in and give you business as well.
