By: Jeff Dodd

If you have found yourself complaining about your child’s sleeping problems, the try these tested solutions:

Have a predictable schedule for your child. Among the reasons why babies have irregular sleeping time or sleeping patterns is because there is no predictable schedule that your child can follow and which will help in regulating his biological clock of recurrent activities like eating and sleeping. Make a predictable schedule that your child can follow. You can do this by setting a time for each of his major activities like playing, eating, and sleeping. You may, for example, set 7 am as your child’s eating time and 8 am to 9 am as his playing time. Bring him to his bed at 10 am for a nap regardless if he is sleepy or not. When you do this everyday, you will help regulate the sleeping time and sleeping pattern of your child.

Have some pre-sleeping activities. One of the best ways to tell your child that it is time for him to go to sleep is not by telling him but by prompting him it is sleeping time by having pre-sleeping activities. One of the most common and reportedly most effective pre-sleeping activities is reading a book to your child. Some parent sing songs to their child while others give their child a warm bath.

Make the child comfortable. Your child may have difficulty sleeping because he feels uncomfortable. You can do something about this by giving your child a warm bath to make him feel clean and comfortable. If you can’t, make sure that he wears clean diapers and fresh clothes. This will help in eliminating any sticky feeling your child may feel because of soiled diapers and dirty clothes.

disturbances to your Remove potential obstacles to your child’s sleep. Clear your child’s bed of things that can wake him up in the middle of his sleep. Noisy toys like child rattles, for example, do not only keep your child alert and busy, they can also make noise that can disturb your child when he sleeps. Have a setting that will help your child sleep easily and undisturbed by checking his bed of anything that can be potentially distracting to your child’s sleep.

The next time you are in trouble with your child’s abnormal sleeping behavior, try applying these tips. It will help in regulating your child’s sleeping patterns and can help him have the needed nap and sleep that he deserves to grow healthy and strong.
