Why Buy a Used Motorcycle?
By: Justin Stewart

Buying a used motorcycle is like buying a dog. While most people like the new cuddly ones, a new one can be a lot of work. With a used dog, essentially one out of the puppy stage, it is usually house broken and won't chew on your things any longer. A used motorcycle is already broken in and ready for those long rides across country and to the next week long rally you have been dying to attend. New motorcycles with brand new leather seats can still be squeaky and uncomfortable, kind of like that leather baseball glove you worked at for hours to soften the leather. The used motorcycle seats are already softened and ready for that long trip in comfort and style.

Tried and Trusted

Used motorcycle units tend to have all the kinks already worked out. If there is going to be a recall, it will be done fairly early in the life of a new motorcycle. While the chances of any fatal accidents occurring with a new motorcycle are very slim, any new technology has it's incubation period. Buying a used motorcycle can get you past that new technology stage to tried and true technology. Even many years after a vehicle has been manufactured, you can still see recalls in technology, so while a used motorcycle is not completely out of the woods in regards to possible recalls, there are fewer chances that a recall will be made on an older model.

Cheaper Accessories

Most bikers selling their used motorcycle will not remove accessories from the used motorcycle they are selling. There are several reasons for this. One such reason is that many times the accessories purchased for the used motorcycle may not fit the new motorcycle. In this way, you can get a great deal on accessories on a used motorcycle simply by purchasing the used motorcycle. Sometimes the accessories on a used motorcycle are worth the price alone, without even considering the cost of the bike itself. Some saddlebags can cost as much as $500 or more depending on how customized it is. A custom paint job on a used motorcycle could cost thousands of dollars. A used motorcycle that has custom handlebars, say cruiser bars have been added, can be worth a good amount of money, depending on the brand and style of the handlebars. Accessories can be a good motivation for choosing a used motorcycle.

Great Price

Because it is a used motorcycle, you can find great deals. If you find a make and model that you are particularly interested in, you could search classifieds and compare and find the best deal. With a used motorcycle, if you are only willing to pay a certain price, many used motorcycle sellers will deal if you have a price in mind and it is reasonable. In this way, you could find the best possible price, whereas a new motorcycle has a set price and generally there is no negotiating with the price. A used motorcycle can be a great bargain.
